Welcome to pwphotoart! After a break from film photography for twenty five years, I have returned to photography in the digital age. My journey of rediscovery and rekindled delight in finding and taking images to present my worldview is an exciting and challenging one. Apart from the learning curve of handling unfamiliar digital equipment, I have yet to find a favoured subject area and as a result my work is diverse (like most amateurs). photo right: Ancient Stone, North Yorkshire Moors | |
![]() | Living on the Estuary of the River Thames I have grown-up with a fondness for seascapes and all things related to the sea and rivers. I am also drawn to anything and everything historical (academic legacy). I also have a growing fascination with fauna and flora. The latter is an interest inspired and keenly shared by my wife, who has now taken to photography creating symbiotic interests. photo left: Wild flower, Essex |
The digital revolution has dramatically altered the face of photography by setting new challenges, demanding new skills, but offering unprecedented opportunites and powerful tools for individual artistic expression and creativity by all digital camera owners. Although behind the camera lens nothing has changed since the days of Sutcliffe, Adams or Cartier-Bresson, digital photography now allows the creation of instant quality images accessible to anyone and everyone. Alas, I will never attain the artistry of Adams or Cartier-Bresson, but I can still have fun trying! | photo: Old Door, New Car |
photo: Blue Green Algae | As far as I am concerned there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to take photos, only better ways and different techniques. If you are happy for your photo to hang on your wall, who cares what anyone says! I read on another photography website recently that they were advised when taking-up photography to, "ignore others and take the pictures they liked and accept it as a bonus if others liked them too". I could not agree more! It gives me great pleasure presenting my images and I hope they give you equal pleasure looking at them, now and in the future. But hey! - why are you reading this when you could be taking photos! Paul Wilkinson MA July 2007 |
